"Travel Notebook" is a concept album that takes listeners on a whirlwind exploration through music originating in different regions and cultures across the world as experienced by the performers and composers through their own backgrounds and travels. Listeners delve into and an hour long excursion beginning at first with an upbeat fusion of jazz and Greek dance influences in Spanish composer Pedro Iturralde's Suite Hellenique. This work, as well as a number of others presented, was arranged by Duende to suit their unique instrumentation within the world of contemporary chamber music. Amidst these globe-trotting works are included selections by Villa-Lobos (Brazil), Iturralde (Spain), Barrios (Paraguay), Piazzolla (Argentina), de Falla (Spain), and a featured premiere recording by South African composer Dr. James Wilding, which was composed for and premiered by Duende in 2014. The selections and concept of this album strongly align with Duende's core initiative of presenting a diverse array of musical material drawn from global traditions.
